Company History
Mr. Harold Hurvitz founded National Heat and Power Corp. in 1957. The original location was established at 822 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. Mr. Hurvitz earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and became a registered professional engineer. One of the first employees to be hired by Mr. Hurvitz was Mr. Jerry Lebow, a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Purdue University who also held the status of a professional engineer. Mr. Lebow later became President of National Heat & Power Corporation and was also elected President of the Mechanical Contractors Association Chicago Chapter.

Under the direction of Mr. Hurvitz and Mr. Lebow a strong business model was established wherein National Heat & Power Corporation had the pleasure and privilege of successfully serving major buildings and builders throughout the greater Chicago area. From 1964 through 1982 an office located in Springfield, Illinois was created to serve clients located in the downstate areas of Illinois. Our roots were deeply established in the commercial and industrial building markets. A substantial client base was formed by hospitals and institutions; fortune 500 companies; commercial properties and industrial facilities; leading area design professionals representing architects and consulting engineers; and general contractors.

Several key acquisitions within the industry further propelled the growth of National Heat & Power Corporation such as Goodman Plumbing  (a company founded in 1921 by the Goodman family) and Reliable Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Corp. (a company founded in 1936 by the Matlin family). These companies added to the prestigious client list and enhanced the capabilities and resources of our firm.

As the company grew, a need developed for additional management and operational capabilities.  Mr. Michael L. Russ started in 1969, representing the second generation of the Hurvitz family. Mr. Michael S. Hurvitz followed in 1971, and Mr. Bruce L. Hurvitz in 1982. Today Mr. David Russ represents the third generation of Hurvitz family involvement in National Heat & Power Corporation.

Throughout our history that expands decades in the industry one tradition will stand out as distinctively as it has all along... "we not only intend to meet your expectations..... we strive to exceed them!" By blending together state-of-the-art capabilities and many years of top-caliber services of National Heat & Power Corporation, NHP Service Company and Goodman Plumbing and Heating Company, we are confident we will become an even more important resource for all of your heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing and piping needs.
